What is acerola?
Acerola, also called Malpighia glabra, is a plant that belongs to the Malpighia family (Malpighiaceae). It is found in South and Central America and is also known as acerola cherry, azerola or maple cherry. However, the fruit has nothing in common with the native cherry. Acerola tastes somewhat sour and the aroma can be reminiscent of an apple.
